design critique

quote citations:  Twisted Seoul. www.loft-magazine.com/twisted-seoul/

“Uniform glass finish for the
building’s facade, resulting in
a mesmeric undulating motion
that plays with light and form”

Taking inspiration from Seoul’s majestic GT tower and
Alain Monnens’ iconic crane desk lamp, the artist uses fluid
water-like motions and contrasting basic lines to achieve an
easy flowing model that replicates the smooth ripple patterns
of water movements.

The clear malleable plastic replicates the transparency
of water and the way that lights are refracted, creating harmonious,
soft shadows along with repetitive wave illusions that mimic
Couwenbergh, bosman and Spanjersberg’s gentle wave patterns,
the Dutch architects behind the mesmerizing GT tower.

Stitched into the center of each individual detachable piece are
thick diagonal lines, which the designer intentionally designed in
order to  bring attention to Alain Monnens’ angular formation in the
structure of the crane desk lamp, and then uses white thread to
show a visual connection between the  strong contrast of fluid
 curves and basic straight edges.

The precedents bring about a sense of modernism and allows the
viewers to understand the unity between modernism and fluidity..
Further more this is evident in the style of the model and the ideas
behind the model, as if a new way to look at the physics of nature
is brought to life by the representation of the model. The way that
the body of the model curves, the individual pieces that bond
like jigsaw puzzles, the spine-like effect of the bold threads are all
ideas that were developed during the design process and are the
outcome of the designer’s observations of her inspirations
